Description

She was hovering above the broken soil of Tao village. Embory, a small illumise whose gentle glow illuminated the devastation around her. Not more than a couple of days had passed since Sorbet, the kyurem had erupted into a fit of inexplicable rage. Rurik had put his two cents as to why this had happened. He was always telling Embory that everything happens for a reason and they couldn’t feel anger towards Sorbet for his actions until reasons for his chaos were explained.

It was hard enough not to feel angry about what had happened though, she was looking at it all now. The crumbled buildings, the lifeless figures of scattered plants, and the blistering snow of Sorbet’s rage.

This wasn’t her home but she could feel the pain radiating from this place. She had to hand it to her claydol assistant though, he knew how to make others think hard about something. What if this wasn’t Sorbet’s fault or even PK’s? She wouldn’t feel right knowing she was accusing this destruction on someone who was innocent and didn’t deserve the wrath of her anger, and not many deserve the anger of Embory when she loses her temper.

There was a reason why she was here to begin with. Although her long forgotten purpose to be in Tao had originally been to perform for the masses of the village, it had now become one of vigilance as she had tried to protect others from the elements of Sorbet’s rage. It was a grander purpose then what she was used to, but Embory couldn’t help feel that she had only benefited from this storm.

As crazy as it seemed now somehow the storm had brought her back together with her long lost friends, the friends who had been by side performing with her throughout the Tao world not so long ago. To think she was packing up and heading out to help her friend Rurik with his own set of problems, she could have missed them entirely. What a cruel trick of fate that would have been!

As much as she loved to be with them though, the time had come for Embory to keep her end of her deal. She hadn’t forgotten about helping her assistant and wouldn't back out of her promise now only just because she had found her friends. They would be ok. Persia was a tough little hippopotas and Meranda was sure to keep their spirits up while she was away. No, she was certain they would get by fine; they had made new friends and were part of a community or guild of sorts now. It was the sudden departure that Embory had come to fear.

Leaving so soon after being apart so long, it would hurt them, she just knew it. Especially Meranda. They were like sisters growing up together when they were young. Hopefully Meranda would understand and besides, it was only for a little while right?

Embory hesitated now just behind Meranda’s tiny, blue slug like body, made even more apparent by the glow of Embory’s tail light. They had come to check out the damage together, to see how bad it really was in Tao Village, but Embory had already gotten more than a big enough glimpse of the destruction. It was time to take her leave.

“E-excuse me? Meranda, I need to talk to you darling,” Meranda stopped her mild pace to turn and looked up at her glowing friend with large warm eyes. She was surprising cheery for the situation they were in but then again Embory had told her this was going to be a special walk. Meranda couldn’t help but feel excited about anything really.

“Oh I’m so happy that we get to walk together now Embory! I missed you sosososo much when you were gone and I know I keep telling you that, but I think I might explode of joy if I don’t stop saying it! Oh wait... Embory, you wanted to talk me? I’m all ears!”

Well geez, if that didn't make things hard for Embory to tell Meranda the news she didn't know what would.

“Well actually Meranda... I think I have to be going soon to help my assistant, Rurik with something.” The look on Miranda's face quickly changed from one of joy to one showing a sense of hurt bewilderment. It takes a lot to bring Meranda’s mood down, but it seems that Embory’s few short words were beginning to do the trick.

“B-but why!? You just got here! I missed you so much when you were gone! Do you really got to go?”

“I’m sorry darling, but It’s just that a made a very special promise to my very special assistant. You know him don’t you? That claydol with the black bow tie that’s been following me around? I made this promise to help him before I found you or Persia again! I would stay with you here if I didn't have this promise to keep and you know what I always say right?”

”Of course I do,” Meranda said somewhat defensively. “A melody always stays true to the tune!” A smilie had began to appear across Meranda’s face once again. That was their old motto back in the day when it was just the two of them, and saying it now was bringing back some memories of the fun they had shared.

“Oh well, all right. If you gotta go then ya gotta go! Anyways, you said the word special twice so that must mean it’s super important! I’ll tell Persia why you're leaving, don’t worry. Just promise me you’ll come back soon, ok Embory?”

“I promise Meranda. I’ll come back faster then you can sing that little song you like so much!”

“You mean the joy song?” Meranda said, her voice edged with uncensored excited.

“Of course I mean the joy song, darling! Don't forget to sing a verse for me when I’m gone. I’ll be heading out now dear! So long”

“C’ya later Embory!” Meranda called. And that would be the last Embory would hear from Meranda for awhile and she knew it.

Embory kept her gaze on her tiny friend as her light body began to hover in the direction of her assistant. Rurik had been waiting patiently for the illumise’s return near the exit of Tao village ready to head out on the expedition to save his people. The sooner I go the sooner I come back, Embory thought to herself as she waved goodbye.

And I will be coming back.
